Next Generation was founded in 1993 to spread the pro-life and chastity message to youth throughout
New Zealand. Our aim has always been to provide accurate information to empower youth to make good
decisions - physically, emotionally and spiritually. We also actively work to promote an abortion-free
We do this through:
• Youth Days, Life Fests and other events
• Speaking engagements at youth groups and secondary schools
• Prayer (at times this has included prayer outside the abortion place)
• Our Facebook page "NextGenerationNZ"
The inspirational speech that spurred the original group on was that of Blessed John Paul II at World Youth Day 1993 in Denver, USA. Here he spoke of the importance of youth in the building of a culture of life:
"I am confident that you have grasped the scale of the challenge that lies before you,
and that you will have the wisdom and courage to meet that challenge.
So much depends on you."
"At this stage in history, the liberating message of the Gospel of Life has been put into your hands.
And the mission of proclaiming it to the ends of the earth is now passing to your generation.
Like the great Apostle Paul, you too must feel the full urgency of the task:
"Woe to me if I do not evangelize" (1Cor 9,16).
Woe to you if you do not succeed in defending life."
Blessed John Paul II exhorted the youth in 1993 to have no fear. His successor, Pope Francis has now in 2013 echoed his thoughts. "Go, do not be afraid and serve" we were told at World Youth Day, Brazil.
So young people you are strong. You are so much needed in this battle against the culture of death.
You are the hope for the future.
Come join us. Let us serve life, live love and share hope.
What can you do to serve life, live love and share hope?
Pray, go to Holy Mass and receive Jesus in Holy Communion, receive the sacrament of reconciliation frequently, attend Adoration. Download our prayer book (you can also ask for a real copy), or check out even more prayers for youth for every day here. Prayer is at the heart of service - so pray first, then act.
Live a chaste life
Walk the talk. Live a chaste life, a pure life. Your chastity, your purity is a beautiful gift you can give to your future husband or wife. It a wonderful gift for God if you are called to the Priesthood or Religious life. But if you do make a wrong decision, know that nothing is too big for God to forgive and that it is possible to try again with His help.
Educate yourself with the facts about life and family issues, such as abortion, euthanasia, the abortifacient nature of some 'contraceptives', chastity, true marriage... The list is endless. When you know what is at stake, it is easy to speak up in defence of life, faith and family. Here's some different ideas where you can find more information:
