Novena to St Pio of Pietrelcina for the New Zealand Election

Election day (23rd September) is the Feast of ProLife

Saint Pio of Pietrelcina. It is no coincidence.

This is arguably the most important election in

New Zealand's short history. With extreme abortion laws,

euthanasia and assisted  suicide being proposed by some

candidates and parties, we need to storm heaven for

mercy that, if it be His will,

God will grant us a parliament that will strengthen a

Culture of Life in New Zealand.

Please join us in a very special novena to St Pio to

 plead for his intercession.

Find below links to a series of novena prayers for you

and your family to pray together.

The novena will begin from Thursday 14th and

conclude on Friday 22nd September just before the election.

    Daily Prayer for Life
O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living,
To you do we entrust the cause of life.
Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born,
Of the poor whose lives are made difficult,
Of men and women who are victims of brutal violence,
Of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy.

Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of Life
With honesty and love to the people of our time.

Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new,
The joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives
and the courage to bear witness to it, resolutely,
in order to build, together with all people of good will,

The civilization of truth and love,

To the praise and the glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.

~  Pope St John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae

Prayer for the Unborn
Lord Jesus,
You who faithfully visit and fulfill with your Presence

the Church and the history of men;
You who in the miraculous Sacrament of your Body and Blood
render us participants in Divine Life
and allow us a foretaste of the joy of eternal life;
We adore and bless you.

Prostrated before You, source and lover of Life,

truly present and alive among us, we beg you.

Reawaken in us respect for every unborn life,

make us capable of seeing in the fruit of the maternal womb
the miraculous work of the Creator,
open our hearts to generously welcoming every child that comes into life.

Bless all families,
sanctify the union of spouses, render fruitful their love.

Accompany the choices of legislative assemblies
with the light of your Spirit,
so that peoples and nations may recognise and respect
the sacred nature of life, of every human life.

Guide the work of scientists and doctors,
so that all progress contributes to the integral well-being of the person,
and no-one endures suppression or injustice.

Gift creative charity to administrators and economists,
so that they may realise and promote sufficient conditions
so that young families can serenely embrace
the birth of new children.

Console the married couples who suffer
because they are unable to have children
and in Your goodness provide for them.

Teach us to care for orphaned or abandoned children,
so that they may experience the warmth of Your Charity,

the consolation of Your Divine Heart.

Together with Mary, Your Mother, the great believer,

in whose womb you took on our human nature,

we wait to receive from You, our only True Good and Saviour,

the strength to love and serve life,
in anticipation of living forever in You,

in communion with the Blessed Trinity.

~ Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, 27 November 2010

Prayer to St Michael the Archangel
      St Michael the Archangel
defend us in this day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray
And do thou O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God, cast down into Hell, Satan,
and all the evil spirits, who wander now throughout the world
      seeking the ruin of souls.

      Pardon Prayer

My God, I believe, I adore,

I trust and I love Thee.

I beg pardon for those who do not believe,

do not adore, do not trust

      and do not love Thee.

      The Angels Prayer

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

I adore Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity

of Jess Christ present in all tabernacles of the world,

in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended,

and by the infinite merits of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus

and the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

I beg the conversion of poor sinners.

Stations of the Cross in Reparation for Sins against Life
    (Pro-Life Stations of the Cross)

Our Lord suffered and died to make reparation for the sins of humanity.  Consequently, the
devotions of the Stations of the Cross can be used wherever there is need to make
reparation for sin.  It is therefore most appropriate that in consideration of the anti-life
mentality of the contemporary world that the devotion of the Stations of the Cross be
applied specifically to make reparation for the sins committed against life.  Prepared by
Fr Linus Clovis, these Stations of the Cross provide the devotee with meditations centred
on the current culture of death.

For an End to Abortion and for those Involved in Abortion

For an End to Abortion
Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life.
And for the lives of my brothers and sisters.
I know that there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion.
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected
And New Zealand once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice,
Not just for some, but for all,
Through Christ our Lord,

~ Adapted slightly from the original by Priests for Life

Prayer for Respect of Life
Father and maker of all,
You adorn all creation with splendour and beauty,
and fashion human lives in Your image and likeness.

Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of Your hands,
and renew among Your people a readiness to nurture and sustain
Your precious gift of life.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever,

Prayer for Those who have Lost a Child to Abortion
Lord of all Life, You have entrusted us to the care of one another,
And called us to be one Body in Christ.

You call us to rejoice with those who rejoice, and to weep with those who weep.

Hear our prayer today
For our brothers and sisters who have lost children to abortion.
Help us to understand the pain that is in their hearts,
And to be a living sign to them of Your welcome, Your mercy and Your healing.

Help them to undergo with courage the process of grief and the journey of healing.
Never allow them to feel alone;
Always refresh them with the presence of Your Spirit
And of their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Console them with the sure hope that You love and care for their children.
Give them new strength, that even while they grieve what they have lost,
They may look forward to all the good that You still have in store for them.

Lord of healing and hope,
Give us all the forgiveness of our sins,
And the joy of Your salvation.

We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

~ Fr Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

For Marriage and the Family

      Prayer in Defence of Marriage
God our Father, we give you thanks for the gift of marriage:
the bond of life and love, and the font of the Family.

The love of husband and wife enriches your Church with
children, fills the world with a multitude of spiritual fruitfulness
and service, and is the sign of the love of your Son, Jesus Christ,
      for his Church.

The grace of Jesus flowed forth at Cana at the request of the Blessed Mother.  May your Son, through the intercession of Mary, pour out upon us a new measure of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as we join with all people of good will to promote and protect the unique beauty of marriage.

May your Holy Spirit enlighten our society to treasure the heroic love of husband and wife, and guide our leaders to sustain and protect the singular place of mothers and fathers in the lives of their children.

Father, we ask that our prayers be joined to those of the Virgin Mary, that your Word may transform our service so as to safeguard the incomparable splendour of marriage.

We ask all these things through Christ our Lord.

Saints Joachim and Anne, pray for us.
Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary, pray for us.

      Crusade for the Family Prayer
Mary, Mother of God, at your request, Jesus worked His first miracle.
He changed water into wine for the wedding guests at Cana in Galilee.
Over the centuries you have not ceased to obtain countless signs and wonders
for the poor, exiled children of Eve.

We therefore ask you to intercede with your Divine Son
for the miraculous graces which the modern world so desperately needs:

      •  For the conversion and reconversion of whole nations to Jesus Christ
and His teaching on marriage and the family.

•  For the heroic preservation among Christians of their faith in the
indissolubility of marriage, marital fidelity and the loving acceptance
of children, as the bedrock of the Christian family.

•  For the courage of martyrs in all of us followers of Christ,
that we may witness to His power to overcome the powers of darkness
that are bent on destroying the human family and the moral law.

Mary, Mother of the Holy Family, and Mother of our families, pray for us.

Life of the Church

      World Meeting of Families Prayer
God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Saviour,
you have made us your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.

      May your grace and love
help our families in every part of the world
be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.

May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!

Prayer of Pope Francis for the Synod of Families
      Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate the splendour of true love.
to you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
      authentic schools of the Gospel
      and small domestic Churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God's plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer.

Prayer for the Day of Life
Prayer for the Day of Life
      Father of Life and Love,
We turn to you today in union with the Church throughout the world,
As she observes the Day of Life during this Year of Faith

We thank you for conquering death
Through the death and resurrection of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
We ask you to deepen the "Yes" of our Faith,
Which is a "Yes" to Jesus Christ and a "Yes" to every human life.
Enable us to help others to say that "Yes,"
And to reject the evils of abortion, euthanasia, and every attack on life.

Bless our Holy Father and all those gathered in Rome for the Day of Life.
Deepen our commitment to proclaim, celebrate, and serve the Gospel of Life,
With the confidence that comes from knowing that the kingdom of death has already been
conquered and that even now we share that life which is eternal.

We pray through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Wondrously Made
For you formed my inward parts,
You knitted me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you for I am wondrously made.
Wonderful are your works!
You know me right well;
My frame was not hidden from you,
When I was being made in secret,
Intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes beheld my unformed substance;
In your book were written, every one of them,
The days that were formed for me,
When as yet there was none of them.

~ Psalm 139:13-18
